Hey Everybody-

Just a short note to tell you to check out my Kings Of Leon photos on the band's official website, www.kingsofleon.com. Just go to the gallery section, and look up the sections for both Charlotte and Asheville from last month. Also, check out the new issue of Harp Magazine for my photos of Sigur Ros and Big Star.

Also, if you're in Charlotte this weekend, look for my Johnny Cash photos at Phillips Place Cinema (in the SouthPark area), showing in conjunction with the premiere of Walk The Line this weekend. Think of it as a high-traffic preview for my Cash and Carter Family photo show at the Evening Muse in December.

Thanks to everybody for checking my photos out last month in Charlotte Magazine, and at the Evening Muse. Happy holidays, and take care.

Hey Everybody-

Once again, I've gone a bit too long between updates. What a summer. There were times that it either seemed like it was going too fast, or would never end. Here's to fall, and here's what's been going on with me.

"Friends And Musicians," my show of local musician photos from the past nine years, will be at the Evening Muse (NoDa area, 36th & N. Davidson St.) in Charlotte throughout October. This show is running in conjunction with an article on myself and my photos in the October issue on Charlotte Magazine (Avett Brothers on the cover). I'll also be returning to the Muse in December for a new show of my photos of Johnny Cash and the Carter Family. I'm not sure at this point when I'll be doing a show again after this fall, so come on out, if you have the chance.

Some amazing events these past couple of months. I just did some photos this past week with the reconstituted Son Volt, to go along with a live DVD that they shot at the Orange Peel in Asheville. Hopefully, you'll be seeing more of these photos soon. The Bob Moog memorial on August 24 was an amazing experience, very moving and one I wish you all could have seen. I also went to Nashville in July to photograph the opening night of a new play on the Carter Family, "Wildwood Flowers," starring Carlene Carter, Lorrie Bennett (Anita Carter's daughter) and Charlotte's own Gina Stewart as Mother Maybelle Carter. Other recent shoots include Andy Griffith, Devo, and the Knitters.

Some photos of mine have made it onto the upcoming Avett Brothers record, Four Theives Gone, which'll be out in January. Other local/regional bands I've worked with recently include the Sammies, Bellglide, Blanco Diablo, Ashley Chambliss, and others. My photos have also been popping up in Harp, Uncut Magazine (UK), Bass Player, Guitar Player, and a few others.

I've also been getting emails recently about photographing weddings. Yes, I do photograph weddings, and rather enjoy them, actually. While I'm working on a section of the site for my wedding photos, just email me if you're interested in having me photograph your wedding, or any other event that may come up, and I'll send you some samples.

Hope everybody's doing well. Love to R.L. Burnside, Vassar Clements, Bob Moog, and so many others that have passed away recently. Hope to see you all out and about somewhere soon, and take care.

Hey Everybody-

Wow, has it been six weeks since I last wrote an update? It feels like ages. We've been very busy over the summer, as I'm sure that you all have been, as well. Let's start with the new projects and publications, shall we?

Proving once again that all the cool publications happen when I'm not looking, one of my photos of Bo Diddley ran in Vanity Fair in the May issue. Believe it or not, VF is one of the few mags I read on a regular basis, so it's very cool to finally get a pic in there. Somebody please send me a copy, though, as I still haven't seen it. Other recent publications that I haven't seen yet Sammy Hagar in Rolling Stone last month, Ted Nugent in this month's Guitar World, and a few European publications.

I recently did a series of interviews with the Yardbirds for upcoming publication in the Big Takeover. This was a lot of work, but getting to talk to Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty, and seeing them live, made me a fan all over again. I also wrote a cover story for the new issue of the Charlotte-based Amps11, about local groundbreaking musicians.

New stuff! I photographed the Avett Brothers in the studio again this week, as well as Django Haskins' new band, the Old Ceremony. I also did promo shoots with American Idol alumni Lisa Leutchner, and host of local and regional bands. Other recent live shoots in Switchfoot, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, the new Doors lineup, and many more. I've also been working on a project that I can't tell you about, but let's just say it'll be very Big. More soon on this one...

I've also moved in the middle of all this. Sandra and I have found us a place a little further out of town, but still close enough for me to scare the locals. For those of you with pen in hand, my new address is-

10025 Sardis Oaks Road
Charlotte, NC 28205

It was sad to say goodbye to the Pinecrest Avenue house, where so much fun and film has passed through, but I look forward to creating better works here. Love to all, best wishes and take care.
-Daniel

P.S. I will also be having a show of local and regional photos at the Evening Muse in Charlotte this October, running concurrent with an article in Charlotte Magazine, and the return of my Johnny Cash photo show at the Queen's Beans in Charlotte in November. Tell your friends, and tell them often.

Hey Everybody-

Just wanted to give you a short update on this Memorial Day weekend about a couple new things. Son Volt's Retrospective; 1995-2000 is now out on Warner Bros./Rhino, and features three of my photos, all taken in the alt-country bastion of Charlotte, NC. It means a lot to have my work involved with a band that meant so much to me way back when, and I hope that the girl that dumped me at that Son Volt/Richard Buckner show in '97 buys a copy, and finds the photos from that show. Hee, hee, hee.
Revenge is sweet, and so am I.....

Also out now nationwide is the Avett Brothers' new CD, Live Vol. 2. The Avetts are now taking the nation by storm, and these guys make my work look really good. See them soon in a town near you. Trust me, they'll be there.

New projects include interviewing and photographing Eric Burdon in High Point, NC last week. You'll see and read more of that soon. Other recent shoots include Maria Muldaur, Dredg, promo shoots with Charlotte's own Mar, Tyre Fyre and the Hard Times Family, and photos of the American Idol finalists. If anyone wants to see any of the Idol photos, email me (chrlyndbx@mindspring.com) and I'll put them up. I'm admittedy not an Idol fan, but I know that many of you are.

Love to all, best wishes and take care,
-Daniel

Hey Everybody-

Just a quick update as I finally begin to make my way out of the mountain of film I generated at SXSW. Getting to see Roky Erickson get onstage and perform was definitely an awe-inspiring moment for me, and I wish that all of you could've been there. Seeing and photographing Brian Wilson, Robert Plant, Sountrack Of Our Lives, John Cale and Alejandro Escovedo, Ian Hunter, and many others were also great moments.

I can finally give you the official news... I have three photos in the upcoming Son Volt best-of, out May 24th on Warner Bros. and Rhino Records. As someone who was a huge fan in the midst of my early photography days, this means a lot to me. And yes, all three photos were taken in Charlotte, so check out the record, and see if you were at that show.

I also made Rolling Stone again recently, in a feature article on Arcade Fire. If you've been to my website in the last couple of months, you got to see that bloody lip pic before everyone else did. (Email me if you'd like an explantion of the events in that photo.) Other recent printings include Uncut Magazine (UK), Harp, and the Charlotte Observer.

Sadly, my photo show at the Evening Muse here in Charlotte has been put on hold for April, as the venue wanted to bring in another artist this month. But, my show (with new photos) should be back during the summer, so email me for updates, or check with the Muse to see when my work will be back.

That's all for now. Best wishes and take care.

Hey Everybody-

Happy Belated New Year, and I hope that everybody has been having a better year than 2004. This is the first year that I have been a full-time photographer, and so far, it's been a doozy. Whatever your hopes are for this year, I hope that good things come to you all year long, and hopefully the same will happen to me.

Wow, the past month....Lots of new gigs, including photos with Darren Jessee (ex-Ben Fold Five drummer) and his excellent new band, Hotel Lights (thanks for the Colin Blunstone record, too, Darren), my longtime faves Mercury Rev in Philadelphia, Cast Iron Filter mandolinist Mike Orlando, Small Faces keybordist Ian McLagan in Raleigh (which you can now see on Ian's website, www.macspages.com), new work with the Avett Brothers, the Charlotte Philharmonic, and several local bands and assorted projects.

One of my recent photos of Tift Merritt is slated to be her new tour poster this spring, which I'm very happy about. Congrats to Tift on getting nominated for a Grammy. I spent a day last week searching and scanning my Guided by Voices archives for an upcoming Spin Magazine feature, as well as archives of another '90s Americana band that will have a best-of out this spring. More on that soon, as it comes together. My photos of the Avett Brothers in their new live CD, "Live, Vol. 2," also came out very nice, as did my photos in the new Simplified CD. One of my Conor Oberst also was featured in a recent Rolling Stone feature, and I have a Ryan Adams photo in a huge new coffeetable book about Americana music, entitled Sing Me A Song. I'd have a copy to show you, but my copy got sent to fellow photographer and filmmaker Robert Altman instead. No, I'm not making this up......

Thanks to those of you that came to my Down From The Mountain show last November. The only way to follow that one up is, of course, a NEW SHOW. My photos of regional artists and musicians, entitled "Friends Along The Way," will be featured on the walls of the Evening Muse in Charlotte throughout the months of March and April. Many of these photos have never been seen by the public before, and will be for sale, if you so desire to take one home. Come on out, buy a photo, or buy me a beer, whichever you prefer.

And lastly, if you reading this between February 14th and 28th, I will be in Iceland, working with the Charlotte band Mar as they record in Sigur Ros' studio with members of the Album Leaf and Mum. This is simply an amazing project, and I will be posting journals and photos at some point. During my time away, it's simply best to email if you need to reach me, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Thanks to everyone, and hello to my new cat Milo, who is quickly learning that film negatives are not chew toys. Love to all, and take care.
